Wasim Kapoor (b 1951)

Born in Lucknow into a highly scholarly & erudite family,Wasim Kapoor studied art at the Indian College of Arts & Draughtsmanship,Calcutta from where he obtained his diploma in 1971. He was awarded the All India Award in 1980 & 1981 by the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1984 he won the All India Award from The Burka Academy of Art & Culture & the Shiromani Puraskar Award in 1985 by Asian Paints.

Primarily working in oil on canvas which he states is his preferred medium,Kapoor's subjects over the years have been varied-from the rickshaws of Calcutta to Mother Teresa & Jesus Christ to projecting the voiceless suffering of the oppressed,Kapoor imbibes his work with incredible humanity,empathy & feeling.

His works can be found in the permanent collections of The Birla Academy of Art & Culture,Calcutta;The Museum of Bengal Modern Art,Calcutta;The National Gallery of Modern Art,New Delhi; The RPG Group amongst others.
