Laxma Goud (b 1940)

Laxma Goud the artist is passionate,both in his response to his native place of Telengana,Andhra Pradesh & in his recollections of it through his vast body of work. From watercolours to etchings to soft pencil drawings,Goud stretches the contours of his art.

Laxma Goud studied at the College of Fine Arts & Architecture,Hyderabad from 1952-1957. This was followed by a diploma in Mural art under the guidance of K.G.Subramanyan at MSU Baroda from 1963-1965.

Amongst his many international shows he participated in the Sao Paulo Biennale,Brazil in 1977 & in the Contemporary Indian Painting,Festival of India,Royal Academy of Art,London in 1982.

Goud was awarded the State Lalit Kala Award from Andhra Pradesh in 1962 & 1966-1970. He also received the Silver & Gold Medal from the Hyderabad Art Society in 1968 & 1969.

His works can be found in the permanent collection of The National Gallery of Modern Art,New Delhi; Salarjung Museum,Hyderabad;Jehangir Nicholson Collection,Mumbai;Glenbarra Art Museum,Hemeji amongst others.

He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2016.
