Gouranga Beshai is a self-taught artist who has achieved over the years a solid & steady reputation as an artist of great prominence. Drawing inspiration from old-Bengal masters like Hemen Mazumdar,his work is marked by a well-honed & meticulous execution & at the same time by an unstudied formal naivety. His paintings have an irresistible visual pull,both for their charming figurative content & fascinating scheme of colours.
The finer points of his paintings are definitely his smooth brushwork which show great control & no hesitation. His figuration is marked by unforced simplicity,without any edgy angular realism or dramatic chiaroscuro; the tonal glows of complimentary hues are finished on top with a soft sensuous gleam.
He has participated in solo shows & group shows in Kolkata,Cochin,Bangalore,Mumbai & New Delhi.
