Subhendu Sarkar (b 1982)

Subhendu Sarkar is a Kolkata based artist who received his BFA and MFA degrees from The Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. A well travelled artist, Sarkar's mastery and versatility lies in his unique handling of watercolour with delicate brushwork and controlled strokes, reminiscent of the romanticism of the Bengal School which was initiated by Abanindranath Tagore. Always on the move, he has travelled to various parts of the country and rural Bengal, soaking in its sights and sounds which then transform themselves into delicate watercolour paintings on Nepali handmade paper. Subhendu Sarkar is also a noted illustrator who has illustrated many books with his signature illustrations.
