Bratin Khan is an artist who is heavily influenced by spirituality & surrealism. Growing up in a village & then studying at Santiniketan,he was always surrounded by the rich flora & fauna of its area.
Inspired by the landscapes of Santiniketan & painings from China & Japan,Bratin paints human beings,Gods & spiritual icons like the Buddha & Krishna-who are more than just bodies. Choosing the age old medium of Tempera, reminiscent of the romanticism of the Early Bengal School, his canvas is marked by a grainy texture & a soft twilight effect.Drawing heavily from ancient Indian myths & the Purans to even popular folklore, in Bratin Khan's painting one experience a serenity & a deep sense of nostalgia of what was. They are paintings that aren't loud & shout for attention, instead offer the viewer a sense of calmness during the mundane existence of 21st century life.
