Regarded as one of the pillars of contemporary art education & a significant contributor to the modernist art movement in Bengal,Isha Mahammad was educated in the strict traditions of British Academic art practice at the Government College of Art & Craft,Calcutta from where he obtained his diploma in 1958. In 1968 he travelled to the Dusseldorf Academy in West Germany to study graphic art. Here he encountered the German Expressionist group & was in particular impressed & influenced by the work of Max Beckman.
A highly respected & widely travelled artist,he held shows in London,West Germany & was invited to participate in the 6th & 10th Biennale of Asian Art in Dhaka.
His works can be found in the permanent collection of The National Gallery of Modern Art,New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi,New Delhi; Burka Academy of Art & Culture,Calcutta; The Museum of Bengal Modern Art,Calcutta; State Academy of Art,Manipur; Academy of Art & Culture, Jammu & Kashmir; Museum fur Indische Kinst,Delhem,Berlin amongst others.
