RURAL URBAN
RURAL URBAN
Kolkata, West Bengal Gallery Art Frequencies powered by Artshoppy. 16th April 2023 - 15th May 2023RURAL URBAN, explores the city and its surroundings through the works of five multi-disciplinary artists working in diverse genres. From David Malaker’s nightly visions of the city going through a moment of psychological flux and change, where we encounter the city struggling to keep up with the rapid forces of urbanisation, to Subhendu Sarkar’s lush monsoon scenes and lotus ponds from the rural villages executed with brisk and controlled brushwork and watercolour to a more surrealistic imagery in the woodcuts of Srabani Sarkar, we then encounter in the works of Chhandok Majumder urban and folk religious iconography through stunning temperas. Finally, through the use of terracotta, Debojit Roy’s playful take on village animals he encountered breaks the monotony of the show. The intent of RURAL URBAN, is to expand the canvas and showcase five artists working in diverse fields. Each painting and sculpture stands out in their variation of style, colour and content, driving home an identity of their own.
