Sajal Kanti Mitra graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft,Kolkata in 1989. He received the Certificate of Merit from the Rajya Charukala Pradarshani organized by the Government of West Bengal in 1990. His art has always been characterized by silence & solitude. Within that solitude he explores possibilities of transcendence,the desire to see the unseen through the mind's eye. Inspired by daily motions & paul culture,his oeuvre is marked by strong saturated colours.
From 1986-1995 he participated in the All India Show of the Academy of Fine Arts,Kolkata & the Indian Society of Oriental Art,Kolkata from 1987-1992. Having a career spanning three decades he has held solo & group shows at the Birla Academy of Art & Culture,Kolkata;Jehangir Art Gallery,Mumbai;Bangladeshi Art Club,Dacca,India Habitat Centre,Delhi amongst others.
