About this work
Pen and ink on paper, drawn in 1991, depicting a circus scene in a figurative hand. The date places it before Jayashree Chakravarty's 1993–95 residency at Aix-en-Provence, where exposure to the French Supports/Surfaces movement pushed her toward the layering, tearing and staining techniques on organic paper that her later landscape and ecology works are known for.
Jayashree Chakravarty
Jayashree Chakravarty was born in Tripura in 1956. She completed her Bachelor's in Fine Arts from Viswa Bharati in Santiniketan, and then obtained her postgraduate diploma in Fine Arts from MS University of Baroda, where she was exposed to an urban sensibility.
