This page is for anyone who has bought from the gallery, or is about to. It lists how to reach us, what we can help with after a sale, and how to look after a work once it is on your wall.

  • About a work: use Ask about this work on its page. It opens WhatsApp or your email with the work's title and reference filled in, so the gallery knows which one you mean.

What we can help with after a sale

  • Order questions: dispatch, tracking, changing an address before dispatch. See Shipping.
  • Damage or a return: see Returns and cancellation.
  • Your certificate of authenticity: if it has a mistake in it, write to the gallery with your order number. The gallery can reissue a lost certificate of authenticity for a fee, quoted on request — ask on WhatsApp at +91 99039 71710 or at support@artshoppy.com.
  • Condition reports: available on request — ask on WhatsApp at +91 99039 71710 or at support@artshoppy.com, and the gallery will send photographs of a work's surface, edges and back.
  • Framing: see below.

Care

This is general guidance for looking after original works of art. Original works on canvas and paper are affected by light, humidity and heat, and a few habits keep them in good condition.

Light

Hang works out of direct sunlight. Ultraviolet light fades pigments and yellows paper, and the damage cannot be reversed. Works on paper, watercolours and photographs are the most sensitive.

Humidity and heat

Keep works away from bathrooms, kitchens, air-conditioner outlets and radiators, and off walls that stay damp. A steady room is better than a warm or cold one. In the monsoon, check the back of a canvas and the inside of a frame for mould. Canvas slackens and tightens as humidity changes, and a small ripple can come and go with the season.

Handling

Carry a work with both hands on the stretcher or frame, not by the top edge. Do not touch a painted surface or the face of a work on paper. Dust a painting with a soft, dry brush and never with a damp cloth or a cleaning spray.

Storage and moving

Store works upright, not flat under weight, and away from outside walls. To move a work, wrap the surface in glassine or acid-free tissue rather than bubble wrap, which can mark the paint.

If a work is damaged, do not try to repair it yourself. For advice on a particular work, ask the gallery on WhatsApp at +91 99039 71710 or at support@artshoppy.com.

Framing

Works are sent unframed unless the artwork page says otherwise. On each artwork page, On the Wall lets you try frame styles against the work in a room at true scale.

Framing is not sold at checkout. If you would like the gallery to frame a work, ask and it will quote.

A work on paper needs glazing, with a mount so the paper does not touch the glass, and acid-free materials behind it. A canvas can hang without a frame if its sides are finished. The gallery will say which applies to a work.

Hanging

For most rooms, hang a work so that its centre sits at about eye level, near 145–150 cm from the floor. Use two hooks for anything wider than about 60 cm, rated for more than the work's weight.
