About this work

Mixed media on paper, made in 2013. K G Subramanyan drew his iconography from temple reliefs, Kalighat pat and Pattachitra alongside Indian court painting, often setting a goddess figure into a contemporary, everyday register rather than a purely devotional one. The Goddess continues that practice of reworking folk and religious imagery in a modern idiom.
