About this work
By The River is worked in mixed media on paper, a figurative study of people and portraits from 2014. Kanak Chanpa Chakma, born in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in 1963, paints the daily lives of Bangladeshi ethnic minority communities, with women and riverside or domestic scenes recurring across her work. A river setting for a portrait subject sits within that same catalogue of everyday scenes.
