Bibi in saree is painted in tempera on board, dated 2017 and sized 71 × 56 cm, sharing its year, medium, material and format with Babu, its companion in Lalu Prasad Shaw's Babu-Bibi series. The series pairs Bengali gentlemen (babus) with women in their best sarees (bibis), a subject Shaw developed after watching sitters pose at a Santiniketan photography studio.
