About this work

Bibi with ring is painted in tempera on board, a figurative portrait completed in 2019. Lalu Prasad Shaw has painted the stylised Bengali Bibi, drawn from the Kalighat Pat "Babu Bibi" tradition, since he began observing Bengali couples at a Santiniketan photography studio. The gallery also holds Bibi with bird and Babu with bird, the same recurring pair appearing elsewhere in his work here.
