About this work
Mixed media on paper, from 2020. Jayashree Chakravarty has spent three decades building landscapes from layered, torn and stained paper and organic material, a technique she developed after her 1993–95 residency at Aix-en-Provence exposed her to the French Supports/Surfaces movement, and this work continues that practice of building surface through process rather than depiction alone.
Jayashree Chakravarty
Jayashree Chakravarty was born in Tripura in 1956. She completed her Bachelor's in Fine Arts from Viswa Bharati in Santiniketan, and then obtained her postgraduate diploma in Fine Arts from MS University of Baroda, where she was exposed to an urban sensibility.
