About this work

Oil on canvas board, dated 2015. It comes from later in Rabin Mondal's career, a painter who co-founded the Calcutta Painters group in 1964 and whose work turned expressionist, at times with a cubist inflection, over the decades that followed.

Rabin Mondal

Born in Kolkata in 1929, Rabin Mondal was a pioneering Indian artist and a founding member of the Calcutta Painters. Despite working in relative obscurity for much of his life, his artistic brilliance gained national recognition in 2005 through retrospective exhibitions in Kolkata, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
