About this work

Mixed media on paper, dated 1998 and catalogued in the Figurative style. It falls within the expressionist practice Mondal developed over his long career after co-founding the Calcutta Painters group in Kolkata in 1964, a style that at times carried a cubist inflection.

Rabin Mondal

Born in Kolkata in 1929, Rabin Mondal was a pioneering Indian artist and a founding member of the Calcutta Painters. Despite working in relative obscurity for much of his life, his artistic brilliance gained national recognition in 2005 through retrospective exhibitions in Kolkata, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
