Ritwika Ganguly

Ritwika Ganguly (b 1999)

Ritwika Ganguly is a student of visual arts, currently in her final year B.F.A in the Painting Department of Kala Bhavana, Visva-bharati University, Santiniketan. She is interested is the movement of time and the memory it leaves behind. She has been experimenting with drawings, trying to put them in a motion, by making the play of natural and artificial lights a part of her artistic process. The process, other than materials, includes self-exploration through responses to current situation, mostly dream-like existence of reality. Her interest in folk music, mysticism and love for travelling, results in a strong yet silent undercurrent in her work. Ritwika finds the harmony and movement in their music much reflecting in her painting and animation works. She studies Pali scriptures of Buddha’s teachings and is presently a Vipassana meditator for the past two years. She practices meditation to observe her subconscious mind through her bodily sensations to understand her reaction towards social situations. Her works create a connection between the inner world and the outside world of the self.

Presently, she is an illustrator, painter and experimental animator at Sahaje Swadhin: A Dara Shikoh Initiative for the Bauls, in feature films and music videos. Ritwika’s works has been exhibited in several galleries in and around West Bengal.
