About this work

Celebration is an acrylic on paper from 2006, a multi-figure scene built around a gathering. It belongs to Lahiri's long-running practice of figure painting in Kolkata, developed in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour, carried on in oil, watercolour and acrylic across six decades.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
