About this work

Faces is a watercolour on paper from 2000, a study built around portrait heads. It belongs to Lahiri's six-decade Kolkata career, in which portrait heads and figures were a constant subject worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic, developed in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
