About this work

Lady is a small acrylic on paper from 2003, a single portrait figure. The work sits within Lahiri's decades-long Kolkata practice of figure and portrait painting, worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic and developed in bold outline and bright, largely flat colour rather than close tonal modelling.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
