About this work

Lady in Red is an acrylic on canvas from 2008, a single-figure portrait study. It sits within Lahiri's long Kolkata practice, built on the human figure rendered in bold line and bright, largely unmodulated colour, carried on across oil, watercolour and acrylic over her six-decade career.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
