About this work

Portrait of a Boy is a small acrylic on canvas from 2007, a close study of a child's face. The work sits within Lahiri's decades-long Kolkata practice of figure and portrait painting, worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic and developed in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour over her six-decade career.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
