About this work

Reclining Woman is an acrylic on canvas from 2001, a single reclining figure study. It belongs to Lahiri's long figurative practice in Kolkata, carried on in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour, worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic over a six-decade career.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
