About this work

Thinking is an oil on canvas from 1996, a single seated figure absorbed in thought. The work sits within Lahiri's decades-long Kolkata practice of figure and portrait painting, worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic and developed in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
