About this work

Woman is a watercolour on paper from 1998, a single figure study. It sits within Lahiri's six-decade Kolkata practice, in which the human figure was her constant subject, worked across oil, watercolour and acrylic and rendered here in bold outline and raw, unmodulated colour.

Shanu Lahiri

Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
