About this work
Woman with a Comb is an oil on canvas from 2001, a single-figure study at her toilette. It belongs to Lahiri's long-running practice of figure painting in Kolkata, developed in bold outline and raw, largely unmodulated colour, carried on in oil, watercolour and acrylic across six decades.
Shanu Lahiri
Shanu Lahiri (1928-2013) was a student of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. She was the first student of the college to receive the AIFACS President's Gold Medal.
