About this work
Nari — Bengali for "woman" — is an acrylic on canvas, 86 × 76 cm, dated 2008. Shipra Bhattacharya has built her career on figurative paintings of women in domestic, urban and natural settings, moving from early charcoal and tempera work into oil and acrylic on canvas by the 2000s, and this painting's subject sits squarely in that recurring theme.
