About this work

A Celebration is painted in acrylic on the reverse of an acrylic sheet, 122 × 183 cm, dated 2021 and the largest work by this artist in the catalogue. Shyamal Mukherjee's Babu-and-Bibi paintings carry the Bengal School's figurative tradition into a sensuous, humorous contemporary idiom, and this scale suits the festive subject its title names.
