About this work

Babu & Bibi is painted in acrylic on the reverse of an acrylic sheet, 61 × 61 cm, dated 2019 — the reverse-painting technique Shyamal Mukherjee has worked in throughout his career. Babu and Bibi, the recurring couple in his paintings, carry forward the Bengal School's figurative tradition in a sensuous, humorous, contemporary idiom.
