About this work

Babu and Bibi Buying Fans is painted in acrylic on the reverse of an acrylic sheet, 61 × 61 cm, dated 2020, a companion market scene to Babu and Bibi Buying Fish from the same year and dimensions. Shyamal Mukherjee's Babu-and-Bibi paintings draw on myth, memory and daily life in a sensuous, humorous idiom.
