About this work

Babu playing the Dhaak is painted in acrylic on the reverse of an acrylic sheet, 122 × 61 cm, dated 2023, the fourth of that year's Babu-with-instrument panels, this one naming the dhaak — the drum played at Durga Puja. Shyamal Mukherjee's recurring couple carries the Bengal School's figurative tradition into a contemporary idiom rooted in Bengali festival life.
