About this work
Etching, made in 1995. Somnath Hore built his reputation from the 1950s as one of India's leading printmakers, heading the Graphics and Printmaking department at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, and etching was one of the intaglio techniques he worked in throughout that career, alongside the paper-pulp prints of his Wounds series.
Somnath Hore
Somnath Hore was an artist who was deeply affected by the cataclysms that had changed the social history and fabric of Bengal. Hore's art was always guided by humanist concerns as much as the need to represent the figure who endured such catastrophes and movements with lasting endurance.
