About this work
Lavish Lotus is a watercolour on handmade paper, 76 × 48 cm, a flower subject; no completion year is recorded. It shares its scale with the artist's animal and landscape watercolours elsewhere in the catalogue, all worked on the same handmade paper.
Subhendu Sarkar
Subhendu Sarkar is a Kolkata-based artist who received his BFA and MFA degrees from The Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. A well-travelled artist, Sarkar's mastery and versatility lie in his handling of watercolour with delicate brushwork and controlled strokes, reminiscent of the romanticism of the Bengal School, which was initiated by Abanindranath Tagore.
