About this work

Garba Dance is an acrylic on canvas, 76 × 91 cm, dated 2023, matching the artist's other 2022-23 canvases of Navratri dance in scale and subject. Subrata Gangopadhyay's realist draftsmanship, sharpened during his years at the Ananda Bazar Group, has made these festival scenes a recurring subject in his recent work.

Subrata Gangopadhyay

Subrata Gangopadhyay was born on 2 January 1959. Before turning to painting, he worked in the communications industry, in press and publication, over a 47-year career that spanned both fields.
