About this work

Rajasthani Musician is an acrylic on canvas, 51 × 41 cm, dated 2018, a figure study of the kind named in its title. Subrata Gangopadhyay trained at the Government College of Art & Crafts, Calcutta, and later worked as senior artist for the Ananda Bazar Group before turning independent; his realist draftsmanship carries this portrait as it does his Bengali festival scenes elsewhere in the catalogue.

Subrata Gangopadhyay

Subrata Gangopadhyay was born on 2 January 1959. Before turning to painting, he worked in the communications industry, in press and publication, over a 47-year career that spanned both fields.
