About this work

This second Sindoor Khela, an acrylic on canvas, 76 × 91 cm, dated 2023, returns to the vermilion-smearing ritual the artist painted in 2018 at a different scale and in a folk rather than straight figurative register. Subrata Gangopadhyay's draftsmanship, honed at the Ananda Bazar Group, is known for capturing scenes of Bengali festival life.
