About this work
Mixed media, 36 × 25 cm, built around a figure or portrait subject; no support material or completion year is recorded in the catalogue. Rabin Mondal co-founded the Calcutta Painters group in 1964, and his work turned expressionist over the decades that followed, at times with a cubist inflection — the register the catalogue itself files this piece under.
Rabin Mondal
Born in Kolkata in 1929, Rabin Mondal was a pioneering Indian artist and a founding member of the Calcutta Painters. Despite working in relative obscurity for much of his life, his artistic brilliance gained national recognition in 2005 through retrospective exhibitions in Kolkata, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
