Born in 1961 in Kolkata, Shyamal Mukherjee is a pioneering artist whose work embodies the vibrant spirit of contemporary Indian art. A graduate of Rabindra Bharati University with both a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1987) and a Master of Fine Arts (1989), Mukherjee has devoted his career to pushing the boundaries of traditional painting techniques.
Specializing in reverse oil and acrylic painting on transparent acrylic sheets, his work creates a luminous interplay of light, color, and texture that challenges conventional perspectives. This innovative medium allows him to layer imagery and imbue his canvases with an ethereal quality that captures both the intensity of his subjects and the subtle nuances of his environment.
