Chhandok Majumder is a visual artist based out from Kolkata. He received his BFA and MFA degrees from Rabindra Bharati University . He is also a gold medalist from the university. As an artist, Chhandok draws his inspiration primarily from the diverse folk traditions and artforms of India. However, he simply does not blindly copy or reproduce the same styles and traditions of a folk painter. The primary question he asks through his art is where does India's rich folk traditions find a place in the most-modern age? As a travelling artist, Chhandok has travelled across the country, observing, studying and taking mental notes of the various traditions and approaches found in the country. He infuses his work with great vitality whereby he reinvents India's folk art traditions in a modernist way which he interprets and represents with a distinct stamp that he can call his own. Primarily working with tempera and gouache on canvas and paper, Chhandok's work have a universal appeal.
